CASSANDRA
GLASS STUDIO
Cassandra Glass
Studio is essentially a kiln working and casting glass technique workshop. The
studio was founded in February 1997 by two young artists, Sylvie Bélanger et
Dian Ferland. Their work includes decorative and useful objects as well as
unique pieces and corporate gifts.
The casting glass technique is very impressive. It all begins
with the preparation of a plaster mold eventually printed in humid sand to form
a cavity. The designs are added just before the previously heated glass is
placed in the cavity. The glass then becomes transparent and let's the colors
appear. The result is placed in specialized ovens for two days. As for the kiln
working technique, it consists in the use of heat to shape the glass before
adding color with enamels.
The two artists have created murals for the town of Montreal, as well as special
pieces for Northern Telecom, the Quebec Bar and Quebec government. Their talent
has also earned them many honorary prizes. |
